'Deep Distance II'

Mono print on Shoji paper

Unframed

These new ‘Deep Distance mono prints’
are a personal exploration of distance,
desire and acceptance.

A soft, blue hue falls from the top of the
image, fading out to reveal bare shoji paper,
before a heavy, textural stroke of dark ink
cuts across the page.

Minimised to two methods of ink application,
a roller and a brush, these images explore
contrast, opposition, balance and harmony.
The space is split between a here and there,
emptiness and form, energy and stillness. The
creation of these works exposed an inner
dissonance and the process of reconciliation.

The collection was great inspired by the
compositional theories of the Northern and
Southern Song Dynasties, and artworks like
‘Poet Strolling by a Marshy Bank’ by Liang Kai.
You can read more about how these works
have been an influence here.
